Who we are
Homeland Initiative is a local national non-governmental organisation (NGO) whose activities are governed by the Law N° 04/2012 of 17/02/2012 relating to NGOs in Rwanda. It aims at promoting health research, providing consultancy services and health systems capacity building to ensure long-lasting impacts in the healthcare systems.
We believe that dedicated research, expert-based service and capacity building are the keys for quick and lasting international development. Homeland Initiative is dedicated to taking the lead in these initiatives to alleviate health challenges, promote better health equity, and to ensure the sustainability of what has been achieved.
Our Mission
The mission of Homeland Initiative is to create a community of vibrant and successful health researchers and service providers that generates information and innovative ideas, discover health solutions, adopt new fields of knowledge and build health systems’ capacity to impact Rwandan and global communities.
Our Vision
The vision of Homeland Initiative is to become a centre of excellence in health research and systems strengthening in Africa. These will be achieved through investing in health discovery and translation medicine, health research, consultancy and strategic health capacity building.
Our Objectives
Homeland Initiative organisational and work pillars are built on the following objectives:
- Develop and implement health-related research programs for evidence-based public health decisions and activities.
- Set up a human resource pool for health research, consultancy and capacity building.
- Provide training that fits the needs of health systems including highly specialised degrees (MSc and PhDs) and certificates.
- To establish and support facilities that support health research, consultancy and capacity development.
- To lead local and international partnerships to improve local capacity to compete for grants, implement public health projects and publish academic resources.
- Institute and support centres for specialised services in biomedical technologies (immunotherapy, molecular science, stem cells science, implementation), Health policy and systems strengthening.
- Provide health-related consultancy services related to health research and health systems strengthening to institutions and individuals.
- To promote the health and career development of women and girls studying health sciences.
- To ensure that special groups are represented and benefit equitably from health research, health systems strengthening activities. These groups include people with disabilities, sex workers, prisoners, etc.)
- To support projects aimed at contributing to health capacity building and health research for sustainable development.
