IN A GLOBALISED WORLD, opportunities and challenges are no longer localised. Migration, connectivity and global warming bring health and economic opportunities with concomitant challenges at the doorstep of everyone. COVID19 pandemic is a perfect example. Today, collaboration is not only easier, but it is also the only most effective and sustainable way to work. Collaboration allows leveraging the opportunities and effectively combating shared challenges. Particularly collaboration has become very relevant in research and development than ever before. Nevertheless, effective collaboration needs the right collaborators, in the right places at the right time. Wrong collaboration is not only ineffective, but detrimental, and wastage of scarce resources as well.

At its inception, Homeland Initiative was built to be a platform for effective collaboration to make an impact through health research and health capacity building. Homeland welcomes individuals and institutions interested in working with us in areas of shared interest. We take pleasure in putting our resources to use to achieve common goals. Working with Homeland Initiative is the right choice because of the nature of the NGO and the country in which it operates:

WE ARE THE ONLY NGO IN RWANDA that works in the sphere of health research and health capacity building. Although there are public institutions in Rwanda mandated to do the same work, we boast specificity in mission, focus, flexibility in business, and quality human resource. We are also highly connected both in Rwanda and the Great Lakes region.

Homeland has FORMAL COLLABORATION agreements with local and international research and education institutions. We collaborate with Rwandan health institutions including Rwanda Biomedical Centre (the implementing arm of the Rwandan Ministry of Health), University of Rwanda, Catholic University of Rwanda and University of Global Health Equity (Rwanda). We have collaboration with Makerere University (Uganda), Selenium Education and Research Centre (South Africa), Cypress Systems Inc. (US). Our collaboration with the above institutions has only grown stronger.

Homeland initiative has brought together A TEAM OF DIVERSE SKILLED HUMAN RESOURCES with different expertise. Our team comprises individuals with diverse fields of specialisation including public health, oncology, health informatics and biomedical sciences, and biostatistics to mention but a few. Our team also has all levels of university education from different education systems (African, Eastern and Western). Our team members have diverse work experiences that cover academia, industry, business, and civil society from within Rwanda and across the globe.

Our ORGANISATIONAL CULTURE is built to foster collaboration. Our internal working system is flexible to accommodate our partners’ needs that do not compromise our core values. We are dedicated to delivering in all our engagements while upholding the integrity of Homeland and partner organizations.

Rwanda being CENTRALLY POSITIONED in Africa makes access to other African countries easier. The central position also makes Rwanda epidemiologically relevant to research as both tropical and non-tropical diseases can be found here. Rwanda is also growing in leaps and bounds both demographically, socially and economically. This comes with health challenges which are ubiquitous the world over. However, considering its level of development, it is safe to say that Rwanda is still a virgin in terms of research exploration.

RWANDA GRANTS VISA ON ARRIVAL TO ALL NATIONALITIES which facilitates easy travel to Rwanda. Rwanda also boasts the fastest-growing airline (Rwandair) in Africa that connects all regions of Africa, China, the Middle East and Europe (Belgium and United Kingdom). This makes travel and logistics very easy. The aforementioned makes Rwanda one of the best research and working places in Africa.

RWANDA PROMOTES RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT by establishing INFRASTRUCTURE and REVISING POLICIES. Rwanda has installed optic fibre internet making it possible for 4^th and 5^th generation internet to be handy everywhere in the country. The electricity coverage, projected to be 100% in 2024, is currently 60% of the country. Besides, most government services can be obtained online. It takes 30 days or less to obtain research on ethical clearance. Administrative services are relatively quick (mostly taking less than 15 days to respond to requests). Hotels and other amenities are in plenty and vary in quality to meet all people’s needs.
